WHY CONVENE

GOALS

Global Family Discipleship

What can we do together that we cant do apart? We grappled with this question for a while and to our dismay, we realized given all the resources, any church can do any activity by itself. Evangelism, discipleship, leadership development, church planting you name it.

The big aha! was no one church in the world can be a global family by itself.  No one church can foreshadow heaven here on earth except for the multicultural, multiethnic, multi-generational, multi-sectoral worldwide family of Jesus Christ.

Therefore our main goal is to BE a GLOBAL FAMILY, consequently as a global family, we will cross disciple the next generation of globally minded leaders who will transform every sector of society with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Hence our Global family discipleship focus.

ATTRIBUTES OF A GLOBAL DISCIPLE

Globally Minded

  • Experience outside of your own cultural church context that results in reverence, submission, and mutual valuing of the Global Church in multiple contexts (Africa, Asia, North America, etc).
  • Desire and commitment to be used by God beyond your comfort zones, cultural contexts, and geographical boundaries.
  • Commitment to engage collectively and intentional about forming long-term relationships.

Proclamation

  • Commitment to preach the Gospel unashamedly and consistently as the Lord leads.
  • Understanding of the whole Gospel story as creation, fall, redemption, and restoration.
  • Recognize Jesus as the only way to the Father and the Son of God.

Demonstration

  • Understanding that you were called to be the light of the world, not called to be the light of the church.
  • Committed to a lifestyle of service beyond the walls and keeping of the greatest commandment – Love the Lord Your God and your neighbor as yourself.
  • An understanding and encouraging efforts to redeem a fallen creation through the spheres of influence for self and others.

Multiplier

  • Encourages others to walk in the ways of Christ as you walk with Christ through committed and encouraging relationships.
  • Guiding disciples who understand that they too, will disciple others (fruit that bears fruit).

Life of Holiness

  • Humble view of the Gospel.
  • Deep reverence and fear of the Lord.
  • Expression of the fruits of the Spirit.
  • Established relationships that foster transparency, accountability, rebuke, and affirmation.

Guiding Scriptures

  • Luke 9, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19, Matthew 5:16

Initiatives

Global Residency Program:

  • The global residency program is a year long experience proposed to facilitate exchange of staff from between the global family. We desire:
      • To foster relationships between Mariners Church global church partners.
      • To facilitate leadership development for the residents
      • To expose hosting church staff, volunteers and congregation to global church partner members and hence create momentum, awareness, relationship and mobilization of members towards the specific church partner.
      • To facilitate exchange of best practices and cultural strengths for continued growth amongst partners.
      • To provide a platform from the various global partners to interact and learn more about other contexts
